WE HEAR YOU AMERICA SWEEPSTAKES III (#674) OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE, ONLINE SERVICE SUBSCRIPTION OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN

PURCHASE WILL NOT IMPROVE AN ENTRY'S CHANCE OF WINNING

THE WE HEAR YOU AMERICA Sweepstakes III (#674) is sponsored by The Reader's Digest Association, Inc. (Reader's Digest) ("Sponsor"). Sweepstakes begins on November 16, 2011 and ends on March 1, 2012.

1. ELIGIBILITY: Sweepstakes open to legal residents age 18 and older of the United States. Employees and members of the immediate families of employees of Reader's Digest, or its affiliated or subsidiary companies, judging agents, promotion partners, agents or agencies and/or prize providers are not eligible to vote. Immediate family is defined as parents, children, siblings and spouse and individuals residing in their same household (whether or not related.) Sweepstakes is governed by the laws of the State of New York. Sweepstakes is void where prohibited by law. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

2. HOW TO VOTE: You can vote in this Sweepstakes via the Internet. Please go to www.ReadersDigest.com/America and follow the online instructions. You will be instructed to enter your name, address and email address, and vote for a city/town for which you are voting for prize eligibility. Any city/town in the United States is eligible to win a prize. For purposes of this promotion city/town is defined as an entity that qualifies as the city portion of any mailable address in the United States. You will also be given the opportunity to explain what you believe the prize money should be used for if the place you nominate wins. This explanation section is optional. If you leave it blank, your city/town will still be eligible to win. To be eligible, all entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Time) on March 1, 2012, the Sweepstakes Deadline Date.

Each vote must be entered manually by one person. You may vote as many times as you wish. The use of any automated entry/voting device is prohibited and any votes discovered to originate from such a device will not be counted and anyone employing such device will be disqualified. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. Any dispute regarding submission of online entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an internet access provider, online service provider, or other organizations (e.g. business, educational institute) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Sponsor is the official timekeeper for this sweepstakes. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the operation of the website or the entry process.

3. PRIZES: A total of 18 Prizes will be awarded to nominated cities/towns in the form of a donation to the city/town. For purposes of this promotion city/town is defined as an entity that qualifies as the city portion of any mailable address in the United States. The Prizes to be awarded are as follows: One (1) Grand Prize of $50,000, two (2) Runner-Up Prizes of $25,000 each, five (5) Third-Place Prizes of $10,000 each, ten (10) Fourth-Place Prizes of $5,000 each. Total ARV of the sweepstakes is $200,000.

Each city/town may only win one prize. Any city/town that was a winner in any previous We Hear You America Sweepstakes is not eligible to win in this sweepstakes. Click here to see a list of towns that have already won a prize. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a similar prize of equal or greater value in the event that the stated prize cannot be awarded due to circumstances beyond the control of the Sponsor. All taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the respective winning towns. Neither the Sponsor nor its affiliates or subsidiaries will be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of the winning town's (or any person's) acceptance or use of the prize.

4. SELECTION OF WINNERS: Winners of the prizes will be selected by tallying all of the votes received for each city/town. Each vote counts as one. The city/town with the highest number of votes will win the Grand Prize, the city/town with the second highest and the city/town with the third highest number of votes will each receive a Runner-Up Prize, the city/town with the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth highest number of votes will each receive a Third-Place Prize, and the city/town with the ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th highest number of votes will each receive a Fourth-Place Prize.

Vote tallies will be determined by the independent judging agency. Independent judging agency's decisions are final with respect to all issues regarding the sweepstakes, including, but not limited to, eligibility and vote tallies. In the unlikely case of a tie, the independent judging agency will hold a random drawing between the tied cities to pick a winner. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligibletowns/cities receiving votes. Approximate odds of winning are 1 in 15,000. Prizes will be announced via an official press release on or about March 2, 2012 and prizes will be awarded to an authorized town or city representative thereafter. If a law, rule or regulation prohibits a city from accepting a prize, an alternate winner with the next highest number of votes will receive the prize. By voting each individual gives the Sponsor and its agencies permission to use its entry, name, address (city and state) and/or likeness for advertising and trade purposes without further compensation or authorization, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media, now known and hereafter devised, unless prohibited by law. By accepting the prize each town/city gives Sponsor and its agencies permission to use its name for advertising and trade purposes without further compensation or authorization, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media, now known and hereafter devised, unless prohibited by law.

5. CONDITIONS: By entering, participants agree to be bound by these complete Official Rules. Sponsor is not liable for, late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, garbled or jumbled, stolen, or illegible entries or for printing, distribution or production errors. Sponsor is not liable for any technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer Internet system, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Sweepstakes, or other technical difficulties or failures or other errors of any kind. Sponsor is not responsible or liable for any injury or damage to an entrant's or third person's computer and/or its contents, related to or resulting from Sweepstakes. Any person attempting to defraud or in any way tamper with this Sweepstakes will be ineligible for prizes and may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Sponsor reserves the right to terminate or modify the Sweepstakes at any time for any reason. In such circumstances prizes will be awarded based on entries received to date of termination. All prizes will be awarded.

6. GOVERNING LAW: This Sweepstakes is governed by the laws of New York State, without regard to principles of conflict of laws. All claims and suits must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in Westchester County, NY.

A Tribute to Local Soldiers

When a local soldier was killed in Iraq, the town decided to erect a universal memorial that would pay tribute to all soldiers who have served our country. Darlene Leist, who submitted the photo above, explained: "The War Against Terror Soldier and the Soldiers Cross honor those currently in the military who have paid the ultimate price—so do the Vietnam, Korean, and WWII statues. Next, we would love to represent our World War I soldiers and women in the military. Coleman is passionate about this memorial, but it takes money for the upkeep, and the last two statues. Please help us."
